2 Essential Elements For Youtube CHANNEL Success

About Connection and Community

2 essemtal elements for Youtube Channel SUCCESSAre you taking or recording your video clips yourself? Are they a little shaky, a little blur? Poor audio quality? Your editing can hardly be described as 'professional'? Using free video software with all its limitations instead of more sophisticated, professional software? Etc., ... ?

Do not fret, if you have the essential ingredients for success all these will be tolerated and more by your fans, and will not affect your channel's success.**  Watch the video to find out the 2 essential elements for Youtube success.

Many channels are very successful despite the amateurish nature of some (or even all) of the videos that the owners have taken and uploaded - they have a high number of subscriptions, fans, conversation and engagement, that is, a high level of interaction between their fans and themselves as well as among their followers. In other words they have a flourishing community ... and it appears that video quality and even content per se is not the main determinant of a channel's popularity.

Sometimes when productions are too sleek they can smack of being too commercialised and be less convincing than the authenticity of raw, home-grown videos complete with their amateurish blips and hiccups ... it's probably the reason why we all like to view the 'blooper' video cuts of a successful movie/ video production. We like to see the human side behind the scenes.

This is not surprising as we are well into the era where people are used to and expect reality TV and reality journalism (blogging, photo-sharing, video-blogging (vlogging), etc. ... what with the likes of Instagram, Pinterest and Youtube and advances in broadband technology that has made delivery much easier, this trend shows no sign of abating; on the contrary this is just the beginning of a trend that has already entrenched itself 'into the West' (future)!

Expect more home-grown stuff to be the norm. Some smart businesses are so savvy they have tapped into this trend by snapping up successful, home-grown 'gurus' videoing from their bedrooms or kitchens and turned them into ambassadors to promote their own brands and to leverage that home-guru's success (traffic and fans) for their own advantage. There are many channel success stories of 'ordinary' people who have 'made it' this way, in the cosmetics and skin-care and music industry.

2 Essential Elements of Youtube CHANNEL Success!

"Everyone is a Winner on Youtube When We Collaborate as a Community" - SYP TV

Modify Your TV Strategy When Video Marketing on Youtube

What worked on TV will not guarantee your success on Youtube. In other words there is more to success than technical proficiency, an audience-centric focus, and 'quality' content. Quality content per se is not sufficient - there are tons of excellent content, in fact people are swamped with too much content. For channel success focus instead on developing content that resonates with and fosters a strong community-sense by facilitating connection and interaction among your members as well as with yourself, ie., be community-centric.

Channel success is more than the sum of the strategy behind each individual, video campaign. There is careful consideration behind the scenes at every step of the way to ensure consistency and brand coherence. Channel success ultimately leads to sales success (whether it's lead generation, direct sales of service and products, optins, etc.).

(Recommended Video Toolkit: Easy Video Creator allows you to create Professional Vidoes with an Outstanding Difference - You can Directly Embed a BUY or  OPTIN Button in Your Videos to Increase SALES and at the RIGHT Point!  Go here for more information.  This software offers so many benefits as it leverages your time, labour and results and is hugely popular with successful marketers and businesses.)

**Postnote & Update:

While this is true so far and has served well in the past, it would be amiss not to mention that going forward it is advisable to lift your game ie. create high quality videos, for long term success. The latest public news is that Youtube (which turned 8 on the 23-4-2013) is investing heavily in the quality of its content. The ability to survive and compete successfully for any online business is to be able to evolve to meet the needs and demands of the times.

As we have observed the site continues to evolve and improve with regard to function and navigation, user-friendliness, openness to feedback, etc. You have the ability to improve video quality as you upload eg. stabilise your video is if it is shaky, crop your video if it has too much 'dead-space' around it, brighten your video if it is too dark (under-exposed), brand your videos, promote your other videos, entice new prospects to subscribe and now, promote your channel with your very own advertising billboard, banner-space (cf. the 'new look' YT - similar to the header space on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+), etc.. With the old format most users were restricted to text only on the RHS of their homepages.

You also have the option to create videos on the fly - fast and easily - without uploading onto Youtube, using images that you have already uploaded onto other platforms eg. Blogger, with a large repertoire of audio backgrounds to select from for your video backing.

There is an extensive Help section to tap and improve your creativity and free animation programmes to test-drive and create your own animations with.

To date Youtube has been phenomenal - users worldwide upload 72 hours of video every minute and 4 billion hours of video are watched each month (or 456,318 years!). "Me at the Zoo" was the first video uploaded onto Youtube in 2005 by co-founder Jawed Karim and is 20 seconds of sheer Internet history!

If longevity is your goal it would be advisable to start or continue creating high quality videos for your channels ... as your audience becomes more and more sophisticated and high quality becomes the norm.

Quick Pinterest Tip: How to Get Easy Backlinks and Traffic from Pinterest

Quick Pinterest Tip: How to Get Easy Backlinks and Traffic from Pinterest

Create attractive graphics, and upload them to your site - website, blog, social media accounts ...

Then pin these using the Pinterest Pin-It App (get the code from Pinterest) rather than upload them directly from your computer.

Ensure that you have inserted your URL on your images and also next to your pin (as 'comments').

Share the pin on group boards for viral traffic...if your pin is relevant to your board's interests and your pin offers high value (eg. infographics) then it stands a good chance of going viral and pinners won't hesitate to pin them, and in turn their followers will also get to view and repin these pins.

Be creative and use attractive images and colours combined with interesting text written in an interesting font/s and colours ... remember to tag your own images with your URLS / name so that no matter where your images are embedded people can find their way back to you (Tip: fill in the "Alt text" box after uploading). - How to get traffic and backlinks from Pinterest

Once you have pinned onto your pin board, share it with your Facebook friends, twitterers, etc.
Before the new changes you could with one click, share with your Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter followers simultaneously (if you have configured your Fan Pages on Facebook correctly).

However with the new look, Pinterest has not kept these features that were so useful before as it allowed you to automate and leverage your post from Pinterest to the other two major social media platforms. So if you have switched to the new look, you will have to on-post to the other two platforms MANUALLY.

TIP 1: A good way to encourage people after they have had a 'conversation' (comment, like, repin, follow) with you is to follow them if they have pinned, commented, or liked one of your pins. A little appreciation (and reward) goes a long way towards good interpersonal relationships.

TIP 2: The art of getting maximum punch from your PIN is to (more than) sync your image with your text and vice versa (and also place them on the right board/s). The right image with a short, sharp, congruent message speaks more than a thousand words. If you don't have a text message but your image is compelling you will still get traffic ... just ensure you have tagged your image with your URL as a link in your annotation, comment and for eternal measure, as a watermark on the image itself. If your image is not too specific you could pin it on various boards, or a 'miscellaneous' board. Pin it on group boards for greater exposure ... and traffic.

TIP 3: If you are pinning something to sell, state your price - more views and sales occur when there is a price attached; this applies to houses as well and yes, you could promote property... and it's free. When you place the '$' sign against a numeral, this will show up against your pin as the 'price'.

Watch the Video for some interesting Insights!

TIP 4: What if you're a group board owner? Watch this video - you will see that the 'stick' approach does not work on pinners! Now this insight offers you the opportunity to work out a strategy where your pinners will follow your 'rules' without you engaging in time-consuming, unproductive and probably ineffective pin-policing or coming across like an ogre!

Pinterest's Pristine NEW LOOK!

Here is a sample of the Pinterest OLD LOOK:

how to switch to the new look - image showing the old look before switching

When you log in you will notice
  • Less bio line (pink arrow)
  • Hidden website URL (blue circle)
  • Pin numbers showing on top of each board (red circle)
  • tabs at the top of the boards (green arrow)
  • thumbnail of a board and mini thumbnails sit below the board's title (yellow arrow)
  • compare these features with those on a New Look Page.

[Guide: How to use Pinterest to Create Traffic and Sales for your Business]

With the 'New Look':
  • boards have a cleaner, smarter, less cluttered look
  • in the BIO area, the website URL is now larger and visible
  • Board thumbnail sits on white background
  • title of each board sits on top, on LHS, in smaller font-size
  • group icon sits on top, on RHS (if it is a group board)
  • tabs are confined to the LHS and RHS above the boards for a cleaner look
  • categories tab - sits above your bio on the top LHS

Here is what the NEW Pin looks like:

pinterest NEW Pin - comes with some new benefits - find out what these are here!!
A pin's new, bigger look.

The pins are bigger, more attractively displayed and detailed and the navigation is more convenient. When you upload your pin, remember to enter your url. This will now prominently display as a 'website' button above the pin (yellow arrow) which will encourage people to click on it for more information.

If you pin from a website you don't even need to enter an url because this is captured automatically within the 'website' button!! Isn't that so cool? Watch my video as I demo this!

You can easily access the rest of the pins from the same board without navigating away from your pin as they are located on the RHS (cf. black circle).

Other pins pinned!! (pinterest new look)

Now look below to see the "other pins" that were also pinned (black circle, green arrow), so now you know about the other interests of your target market.

Business Analytics:

Now you can track your statistics but only if you have a BUSINESS Account. And analytics are only available if you confirm your website URL and you convert to the new look. So how do you convert
  • to the NEW LOOK?
  • to a Business account?
Here are the steps for switching to the new look: Login, click your icon, then click the switch link (last one in the drop-down box). Warning: this is a permanent change ('Ready to switch for good?')!

Switching from a personal to a business account (watch the video below):
  • Login via
  • click the CONVERT button (top RHS)
  • follow the steps - fill in your contact name, email, bio (do not exceed the specified character count limit or a red highlight will appear - adjust - until all the boxes look white)
  • remember to agree with their contract (TOS - terms of service)
  • verify your website URL - via a variety of options eg. file upload or meta-tag.
  • addons for sharing, etc. - select and follow the process, according to your needs.

Note: the analytics are based on information regarding your website - pins coming from there, traffic to your website from the pins on Pinterest, etc. To view click on your icon and the analytics link.

Pros & Cons, Gains & Losses:

Analytics provides valuable insights on your site's traffic. It is an indispensable tool especially if you are running a business. One of the most valuable benefits of the new look (for business accounts) is this feature without which one is operating blind on this platform. Now with informative insights you can tweak intelligently to maximise your traffic, customers and sales...for free!

One feature that was lost with the 'New Look' design was the ability to automate your post easily to send out to multiple social media platforms (Pinterest, FB and Twitter) with just one click. However if you have to lose that function in order to have analytics it would probably be more beneficial this way for businesses. Having said that I hope Pinterest will reinstate that useful automation feature for the sake of the many pinners who lead busy lives but remain active pinning and sharing beautiful and/ or useful pins with many people all over the world.
